The annual "Psychiatric Survivor Pride Day" was held October 9, 1999 at Parkdale Public Library, 1303 Queen Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Speakers included Leah Piepzna-Samarasinha and former insulin shock treatment victim and current radio talk show host Don Weitz. At 5 p.m. about 45 ex-patients and supporters marched to a nearby park carrying signs protesting forced psychiatric "treatment" (including a proposal for outpatient treatment called "Community Treatment Orders" or CTOs) as curious going home rush hour commuters looked on.
